Amphitheater coming to Lexington to hold up to 5,000 people
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - A $1.2 million gift will help Lexington build an amphitheater which will have enough space for 5,000 people.
The city announced Picnic With The Pops made the donation for the amphitheater, which will be located at Town Branch Park. The park will be on a 10-acre site near Rupp Arena, and the amphitheater will be the permanent home of the concert event.
“When we think about great cities we know that cities have a great quality of life. This adds to our quality of life," Lexington Mayor Jim Gray said, "The arts add dramatically to the quality of life, which leads to economic prosperity.”
The city says Town Branch Park will also feature green space, water features and a dog park.
The park has now received $6 million in private contributions as a result of this donation.
