Arrest made in sleepover shooting that paralyzed Lexington girl
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lexington Police have charged Carlos Jenkins with a shooting that left a 12-year-old girl paralyzed.
Jenkins was already in the Fayette County Detention Center on unrelated domestic charges.
The shooting injured then 11-year-old Amya Catching. She was staying at a friend's house for a sleepover on June 13, the night before her birthday, when someone fired a barrage of bullets into the home on Carneal Road. Amya was sleeping in the window when a bullet hit her in the spine.
The shooting left Catching paralyzed. Doctors could not remove the bullet from her spine.
Police did not say how they developed Jenkins, 23, as a suspect. Detectives charged him Assault and Wanton Endangerment.
