Beavers causing water woes in Richmond neighborhood

Residents in a Richmond neighborhood say a creek behind their house on another piece of property started becoming a pond after beavers continued to clog the creek. Now they say the pond continues to flood into their yard bringing mosquitoes and leaving half of their yard in unusable conditions.

RICHMOND, Ky.- A Richmond family is asking for help regarding an unwanted pond after it has flooded their yards and brought some unwanted issues.

"We're not allowed to go on that property without permission. We're not allowed to do anything back there without permission from the landowner. The landowner won't give it, and the city won't do it, and the landowner won't do anything."

Kira Hayes and her family have lived at their home in the Banyon Community of Richmond for eight years. They say that a creek behind their house on another piece of property started becoming a pond after beavers continued to clog the creek. Now they say the pond continues to flood into their yard bringing mosquitos and leaving half of their yard in unusable conditions.

"Considering I can't even use a shed I spent money on, my kids can't play on their playground without getting disgusting."

Kara and her family say they have dealt with the issue for a while now and just want something done about the problem.

"I just want somebody to come out here and relocate the beavers and unclog it. That's all I want."

Fox 56 spoke with city officials on Friday about the issue. They say they are working to solve the problem immediately. Meanwhile, the landowner says he plans to unclog the pond before the city can come in and relocate the beavers.
