Construction to begin on $41 million widening project on New Circle Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced on Sunday that work is set to begin on a new widening project on New Circle Road in Lexington.

KYTC says on Monday, work will begin on the stretch of New Circle Road between Georgetown Road and Boardwalk Avenue. Officials say it is designed to increase safety and improve the flow of traffic in the area. It will also include reconstruction of the interchange at Newtown Pike, according to KYTC.

Transportation officials say starting at 7 p.m. on Monday and running through 6 a.m., there will be alternating lane closures for both inbound and outbound lanes of Newtown Pike near New Circle Road. That construction will continue every day at the same times through June 1.

KYTC says starting on Wednesday, lane closures will be in effect in the slow lane of New Circle Road from Newtown Pike to Boardwalk Avenue. That construction also last until June 1.

KYTC says this is a $41 million project and is not scheduled to be totally complete until December 31, 2020.
