CLARK COUNTY, Ky. - Two people are dead following a train crash in Clark County.

It happened around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday at a railroad crossing near the intersection of Two Mile Road and McCullough Lane.

Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart said 31-year-old Zachary Davis Winings died at the scene. Emergency crews transported 35-year-old Heather Michelle Shannon to Clark Regional Medical Center, where she later died.

The two turned too early and the driver couldn't get the vehicle off the track, Gayheart said.

"When the train was coming and trying to brake, they couldn't get out of the vehicle in time," said Gayheart. "And they were clipped trying to get out of the vehicle basically."

Gayheart also said it looked like the man was trying to get the woman out of the car when the crash happened.
