Dan Johnson says he will not resign; says allegations of sexual assault not true
BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WDKY) - House Representative Dan Johnson of Bullitt County says he has no intention of resigning. Johnson, who represents the 49th District, made the announcement from his church in Louisville on Tuesday morning.
The news conference began with Johnson and members of his congregation singing, "O Come All Ye Faithful."
He went on to address allegations made in a report by the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting. A woman told the outlet that when she was 17, Johnson sexually assaulted her at a New Year's Eve party at his home. The woman said she was asleep in the basement with one of Johnson's daughters when he allegedly came downstairs and touched her inappropriately. Johnson said the woman's story has no merit.
"I don't want to blast this girl. I have compassion for her," he said.
Johnson also said he would not resign and that he plans to continue his bid for reelection.
