Estill County flooding: Kentucky River still rising
RAVENNA, Ky. (WDKY) - A National Weather Service flood warning continues Monday afternoon for the Kentucky River near Ravenna.
As of Monday afternoon, the river was at 25 1/2 feet. Flood stage starts at 21 feet. They say moderate flooding is expected for Estill County, as the river will continue to rise throughout the day. It is expected to crest near 27 feet on Monday night.
Estill County Emergency Management teams have closed multiple roads around the area due to flooding. Those EMA crews confirm that the following roads are covered by water, and shut down:
Red Lick Rd.
Murphy Ford Rd.
Noland Creek Rd.
Dark Hollow Rd.
Millers Creek Rd.
Sang Branch Rd.
Officials have some advice for drivers in the region.
"We do ask people, don't cross those flooded roads, said Melissa Riddell, with Estill County Emergency Management. "The water is moving pretty swiftly right now and it looks like it's going to continue to increase, that speed's not going down."
While the river is expected to crest later Monday evening, it likely won't fall below the flood stage until Wednesday morning.
