Family excited to get answers after father's 2015 murder in Clay County
CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WDKY) - —
Three years after their family member was killed, the family of Lawrence “Larry” Sizemore says they finally see justice unfolding.
Police say they don't know what the motive was in the killing of 68-year-old Lawrence “Larry” Sizemore on July 13, 2015 but they say they've found the man that is responsible.
Troopers confirmed to WDKY that Zernon Gray, 49, was arrested on March 31 for murdering 68-year-old Lawrence Sizemore. Sizemore was found dead in his home near the Sextons Creek area of Clay and Owsley County. Investigators say Gray killed Sizemore before setting his house on fire. Gray is also charged with arson.
Police believe Gray may have set the home on fire to cover up his crime.
His daughter says it's been a long three years but they are finally seeing the light at the end of a dark tunnel.
“We all as a family are just ecstatic," says Sizemore's daughter, Taylor Kuhn. "We are finally moving in the right direction. We are so grateful to Detective Royal in getting us where we are now.”
Gray was originally arrested in Powell County and was brought back to Clay County. He is now being held in the Clay County Detention Center awaiting his arraignment on April 30.
