Lexington police investigating car break-ins during baseball games
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - Lexington police are investigating several thefts that happened during baseball games.
Last week, police say thieves broke into vehicles at Cardinal Run Park off of Parkers Mill Road and Ecton Park off of Turkey Foot Road.
While it is too early for police to say if the incidents are related or not, in each case a purse was stolen.
Baseball leagues sent emails to parents making them aware of what happened.
"The main thing that they're telling us is not to leave your purse in the car," said Erika Smith, a parent.
The thefts are happening during playoffs with cars packing the lots and lining the streets.
"The parking you can see is really packed and it's that way especially right now," said Charley Cole, a parent. "We are right in the middle of the playoffs, so I guess people need be more vigilant."
Unfortunately, police say this type of crime is common. They are asking people to make sure they lock their cars and take valuables with them.
"Whatever gets somebody to the point where that's what they need to be doing, is a tragedy in it of itself," Smith said.
Police have not identified any suspects.
