Woman killed, man injured in Lexington house fire
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Fayette County Coroner's Office confirms a woman has died as a result of a house fire in Lexington.
The coroner identified the victim as 62-year-old Barcy Madinger.
The fire started just after 4 a.m. Thursday on Flintridge Drive.
Fire officials say EMS took Madinger's husband to the hospital with serious injuries. Madinger did not make it out.
Coroner Gary Ginn says the woman was downstairs in her bed when the floor collapsed from up above.
Ginn says the couple's dog died in the fire as well.
Right now, officials are not releasing the woman's name. Neighbors say they are going to do everything they can to help the man who lost his wife.
"I mean how are you supposed to feel when something like this happens. I mean you're emotional. This is real; this is not like watching TV," said neighbor Mae Arthur.
The home is a total loss. Officials had to bring in a machine to help remove the fallen debris.
At this point, the home is structurally unsound making it difficult for fire officials to investigate the cause of the fire.
