Court docs: Dad gives son loaded gun, tells him to kill himself

Joseph Michael Green (Midvale Police Dept.)

(KUTV) A Midvale, Utah, man is accused of psychologically abusing his 14-year-old son.

Police said Joseph Michael Green, 37, was angry at his son for “misbehaving,” and on Dec. 8, took him into the family garage, at 24 West Marquette Drive, and forced him to kneel on the ground. Then Green allegedly went to his gun cabinet and got a handgun, loaded it with a single bullet and told the boy, “If you are going to kill yourself, do it now.”

According to charging documents, the boy told police that he thought he was going to die. When the boy refused to use the gun, Green sent him to his room and the boy called police. Police did not say what the boy had allegedly done.

This is not the first time Green has been accused of extreme and cruel punishment. In 2013, while caring for his 4-year-old son, Green allegedly beat the boy so badly that it left severe bruising on the boys genitals. Green was charged with child abuse and aggravated sexual assault of a child. Soon after, Green’s wife filed for divorce.

Neighbors say they are stunned by the allegations. Anita Remediz, who lives across the street from the Green, said all of his children where well-behaved.

“I can't imaging disciplining or abusing my kids like that — it's uncalled for,” Remediz said.

Officials did not say where Green’s son is now, but neighbors say they have not seen the 14-year-old since the incident.
