Stoops has joy but not satisfaction following 2-0 start
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky Wildcats won't earn any style points for their 27-16 win over EKU, but Mark Stoops refuses to be upset with a win. He knows they aren't easy to come by.
"Nobody is going to make us apologize for being 2-0," said Mark Stoops. "We know there's work to be done. Those players know that. They're conscientious and they care. So there's absolutely no reason to hit the panic button, but you have to have some urgency."
The Wildcats are now 2-0 to start the season. Stoops was happy after the game and one reporter described him as jolly headed into the game at South Carolina.
"See if you say that next Monday," said Stoops. "I don't know if I'm jolly. I've never heard that word with me, jolly. I just like this team, they're fun to coach. I think they want to get better. Believe me they're going to get coached up this week."
Stoops maintains that he will make sure his team does whatever it takes to win, even if that means gutting out an ugly win.
"You look at South Carolina and they're a good example of that as well right?" said Stoops. "They've been very efficient and have two quality wins. They've just played solid football and they've just done what they've done what they've had to do to win. They are plus four in turnovers. They've had two kickoff returns for touchdowns and they're playing solid in all areas."
Kentucky and South Carolina will play Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
