LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky jumped out to an early lead but couldn’t hold off No. 13 Texas A&M in the weekend series finale, dropping a 17-5 decision on Sunday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park.

Senior outfielder Ryan Shinn blasted a home run in the first inning for the second time in the series and finished with three on the weekend, giving him six for the season. He has flourished in games against teams from the Lone Star State this season, hitting .476 with eight runs, seven RBI, three doubles, four home runs, five HBPs and two steals in six games.

The Cats (14-10, 0-6 Southeastern Conference) also got multi-hit games from senior catcher Marshall Gei and junior infielder Elliott Curtis. Gei reached base four times and drove in a run as well. Sophomore catcher/infielder Coltyn Kessler also added an RBI double.

Kentucky returns to the diamond on Tuesday evening when it hosts Morehead State at Kentucky Proud Park. The game will air on the SEC Network Plus. Audio coverage can be found via UKathletics.com.

Kentucky has scored in 88 consecutive games and 164 of the past 165 dating to the 2016 season. The lone shutout came in a seven-inning game. The current streak now is the the fifth-longest in school history.

UK now is 11-4 at Kentucky Proud Park.

Junior 1B/DH T.J. Collett has reached base in 14 straight games.

Freshman IF Austin Schultz extended his reached base safely streak to 14 games.

Senior OF Ryan Shinn homered in the first inning.

o It was his third home run of the series and sixth of the season.

o It was the second time he had homered in the first inning this weekend.
