LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – It’s been a little over a month and Lexington police detectives said they’re no closer to knowing what happened in a northside strip mall and ended with a man dead, another wounded. But, they know folks have turned to Crime Stoppers to help in eight recent murder cases and they’re hoping people will use the tip line for this one too.

When officers arrived at the scene along Russell Cave Road on April 12, there was nothing they could do for Armond Lukes. The 40-year-old shooting victim was already dead.

“As a lot of these calls come in, it’s a shots fired call with lots of officers responding,” said Lexington police Det. Anthony Delimpo. “And, what they responded on was kind of chaos.”

When the scene finally settled, dozens of shell casings were really all detectives had to work with.

“Witnesses were either uncooperative or didn’t want to be involved,” said Delimpo. “And, we’re limited on what we have. There were people who left the scene and we understand they maybe fled in fear, but people saw the vehicles that were there and could help with certain pieces of this puzzle.”

MORE CRIME STOPPERS:

A 51-year-old man also suffered gunshot wounds in the melee, but is recovering. Detectives trying to put the case to rest said they haven’t been able to get much from him either. This is why they’ve put this in the hands of Crime Stoppers. Hoping to ride the wave of success the program has had by encouraging witnesses to come forward under the cover of anonymity.

“People are watching this and they know we’re airing this and they reach out to us anonymously and we’re solving these cases,” said Delimpo.
