Lexington Police need help identifying alleged purse thief

Crime Stoppers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington Police have released video of a brazen purse theft that happened in the parking lot of GattiTown on a busy Friday evening.

They’re hoping a tip to Crime Stoppers will lead to an identification.

Detectives call the suspect, desperate. “You’ve got several businesses here, it’s a huge parking lot, there’s eyes, cameras, everywhere,” said Det. Anthony Delimpo. “They’re desperate willing to break into someone’s car and steal stuff.”

It was a crime that took just a split second to pull off. Police say the night of May 28th, a man was seen wandering around inside the restaurant for about 30 minutes before surveillance cameras caught him walking away, his hands full of someone else’s belongings.

Dressed in a gray hoodie with RealTree down the left arm, jeans and white shoes, Lexington Police say the man’s behavior looked the part of a crook who’s done this a few times before.

“This is not the first time they’ve done this, they’ve probably been doing it a long time,” Delimpo said. “Somebody is going to watch this and recognize who this is. By the way they walk or just knowing this is a person who goes out and comes home with different items that don’t belong to them.”

If you recognize the man in the photo, call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 859-253-2020 or visit p3tips.com.

Your information is completely anonymous and your tip could earn you up to a $1,000 cash reward.
