A Lexington couple admits an oversight on their part made them an easy target for two thieves who stole from them in the middle of the night.
Clare McClafferty and her fiance also noted, after viewing their security video, how comfortable the two men looked. Like they’d done it before. And Lexington Police agree.
“Absolutely, you can tell they were out at 1:30 in the morning, specifically to look for an open car door and open garage doors,” said Det. Anthony Delimpo. “They’ve done it before and if not caught, they’ll do it again.”
McClafferty says they brought home a new dog the day before and had been up every hour of the night with their new addition. She says they simply forgot to close the garage door of their home on Goodpaster Way.
When they got up to go to work around 6:00 the next morning, they found their car doors open, the inside ransacked and shoes, a ladder and an emergency medical bag missing from their garage.
“We’re hyper vigilant right now,” McClafferty says. “Making sure everything is locked up. It was scary for sure.”
