LIBERTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Casey County Middle School student is being charged in relation to the assault and strangulation of a fellow student.
A screenshot from a video showed two students in the school bathroom. A white student holding a black student in a chokehold. In the video, you can also hear racial slurs.
“I think it was reported by school staff that it was kind of a horseplay incident and then once the video surfaced later it was discovered it was quite a bit more than that,” said Jordan Buis, school resource officer.
Buis said incidents like this do not happen often, but he takes assault like this very seriously.
“Stuff like this personally, I am not going to tolerate it when it is known. I mean, of course, teachers and I can’t be everywhere at any given time, and with that being in the bathroom made it extra difficult too,” said Buis.
The student seen in the video assaulting the other student now faces felony charges of strangulation and fourth-degree assault.
“If anything criminal happens it is going to be dealt with and we have several times in the past and this incident is no different as far as doing criminal charges,” said Buis.
