MANCHESTER, Ky. (WDKY) – A Clay County man is charged with falsely reporting his child being swept away by floodwaters.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Dennis Smith called 911 on Sunday, Feb. 28 to report his child had been swept away by flooding off Morgan Branch Road.
The report started a search and rescue mission in the area. Through that investigation, it was determined the child had not been swept away by floodwater but was actually safe with a family member.
The sheriff’s office says Smith was determined to be under the influence at the time of his call.
Smith is charged with falsely reporting an incident, public intoxication of a controlled substance and second-degree wanton endangerment.
