CORBIN, Ky. (FOX 56) – Spur Oil #6 Gas Station in Corbin, Ky. has lowered its unleaded gas prices about $0.30 cents below the market price.

According to AAA, the average price for unleaded gas in Kentucky sits around $4.29 per gallon.

But down in Corbin, there is an exception with one gas station where the intent is to help as many Kentuckians as possible.

On Thursday, Spur Oil #6 lowered its price for unleaded gas to $3.89 per gallon.

The staff at Spur Oil says the line of cars has been out the lot for the past few days.

One customer at the pump, Jason Curry, said he was surprised when he pulled up to fill up his tank.

“I was trying to get out of the sun to see it,” Curry said. “I was a bit shocked it was down.”

Curry said the $0.30 cent difference makes the world of a difference on the pocketbook.

“I think it’s a very generous thing,” Curry said.

The Spur Oil #6 location is one of nine stores in total owned by local Kentuckian, Ronnie Messer.

Lieutenant Mike Anderson, with the Keavy Fire Department, filled his fire truck’s tank and couldn’t believe how much money he saved.

Anderson said, “If we’d be anywhere else it would be $4.29, it would have probably costed me $160 to $170 dollars to fill this truck up.”

The staff at Spur Oil #6 said this is not the first time their location has helped out locals during hard times.

The location also lowered its unleaded gas prices during the start of the pandemic to as low as $0.99 cents per gallon.

“Its a sense of community, taken care of one another,” Curry said.

“They’re good to deal with for us, they’re good to first responders,” Anderson said.

As of Saturday, the staff at Spur Oil #6 said it is indefinite how long the prices will be lowered to $3.89 per gallon, and it is not hurting the owner’s profit.

“He just wants to help people out and he’s a very generous man,” on Spur Oil #6 staff member said.
