Gov. Beshear reports lowest positivity rate since Nov. 4; issues executive order involving schools


FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDKY) – Governor Andy Beshear is providing an update on COVID-19 cases.

Governor Beshear reported 1,497 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the state total to 399,013 cases. The governor says the state is seeing a 6.30 percent positivity rate. Of Tuesday’s new cases, 235 are in kids 18 or younger.

There were 16 reported COVID-19 related deaths on Tuesday, bringing the state total to 4,476.

As of Tuesday, 894 people are hospitalized for COVID-19 related reasons, 242 are in the ICU, and 121 are on ventilators. At least 47,067 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

The governor announced Kentucky will be getting an additional 10,000 or so doses of COVID vaccines from the federal government for the next three weeks.

Gov. Beshear also issued an executive order that recommends all school districts in Kentucky to offer or expand in-person learning beginning either March 1 or seven days after educators have received their second dose of the vaccine.
