Gunman killed during alleged home invasion in Hopkinsville

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WDKY) – A man was killed during an early morning home invasion in Hopkinsville on Thursday.

Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Tony Sierra said police were initially dispatched to South Vine Street for a report of an intruder sleeping inside a residence.

When officers arrived, they met with the alleged victim and a witness.

Both men told police that a man armed with a gun broke into a home and tried to rob them.

A struggle ensued, during which the victim was pistol-whipped and the alleged intruder’s gun was discharged.

At one point during the struggle, the victim said he was able to get on top of the suspect and choked him.

Police arrived and said it was clear the alleged intruder was deceased.

Sierra said it was not clear if the alleged intruder was shot. The cause of death is still under investigation.

No names have been released.
