LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) – Kentucky Rep. Nima Kulkarni (D) has pre-filed a bill that would legalize possession, sales of up to one ounce, and home cultivation of marijuana in the state.
The bill will seek approval during the 2022 legislation session in Frankfort which begins on Jan. 4.
“I am sponsoring these bills for several reasons, any one of which should be enough for them to become law,” said Kulkarni in her latest press release.
Kulkarni also stated she is backed by multiple leading marijuana advocacy agencies.
If the bill were to pass, adults 21 and older would be able to possess, purchase, and sell up to one ounce of cannabis. They could also grow up to five plants for personal use.
A separate proposal by Kulkarni seeks to decriminalize any marijuana paraphernalia and allow those who have pre-existing cannabis convictions to be expunged.
The bill must be approved in the House and Senate by a three-fifths majority vote in order to move on to the next stage, a statewide vote next November.
