KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – At approximately 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, Kentucky State Police (KSP) in Harlan responded to a call of a three-vehicle collision in Knox County.
Initial investigations into the collision revealed Fredrick Cody Carnes, 23, of Pineville, and a 16-year-old male from Girdler were driving in opposite directions on U.S. Highway 25 and a head-on collision occurred.
Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins confirmed Carnes and the 16-year-old were both killed in the collision.
The 16-year-old driver had a 17-year-old female passenger who was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for her injuries and KSP officials have confirmed the extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.
A third vehicle, driven by 41-year-old Steven Cox was also traveling opposite Carnes and collided with the vehicle driven by the 16-year-old while attempting to avoid the collision. Cox was unharmed.
KSP does not currently suspect any drugs or alcohol to be involved in the collision at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
