Ky. hospitalizations down, but long-term recovery is tough

KENTUCKY (FOX 56) – Kentucky‘s COVID-19 positivity rate has reached its lowest point in more than two months.

All hospitalization numbers are also trending down.

Doctors say it’s important to remember that many Kentuckians leaving the hospital could still experience long-term complications.

“The ICU stay, what it does to a person, is truly horrific. At best, you’re going to leave there with severe PTSD. At worst, you’re going to have severe physical deficits that will hamper you perhaps for the rest of your life,” said Dr. Karan Singh at Western Kentucky Heart, Lung & Gastroenterology.

Some patients may also have to remain hospitalized even after they’re no longer infectious.
