LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – A volunteer from Kentucky tried to bring some Easter cheer to Ukrainian refugees crossing into Poland at the border.
A Kentucky man, known only as Ben, is dressed in an Easter Bunny costume and is greeting refugees at the border and hopes to bring some cheer and joy to refugees escaping Ukraine.
The refugees are mostly women and children. Most of them have said they plan to celebrate Easter despite the interruptions the war has caused.
“I’m here to help because, as it turns out, it is a very traumatic experience for these people to come across the border, and if I can contribute a little. If I can put a smile on a kid’s face, make it less stressful and traumatic, and just alleviate a little bit of the suffering, welcome these refugees, and show the world solidarity, that’s just my little part to do,” Ben said.
The latest figures from the United Nations Refugee Agency indicate the total number of people who have left Ukraine is more than 4.5 million, with over 2.5 million of them going to Poland.
