LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Many students around Kentucky woke up this morning to the news that they would not be attending in-person school Thursday.

Some districts announced their closure on Jan. 5, one day before the weather was scheduled to arrive, but the majority of closures occurred this morning, Jan. 6.

54 public school districts have already opted not to have in-person learning with some choosing to go the Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) route.

Timing is everything when it came to the school districts’ decisions. Although heavy snow isn’t expected to arrive until the late-morning hours, FOX 56 meteorologists predict travel conditions to become hazardous by early afternoon, which would have made the return home from schools dangerous.
