LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A London man is facing an attempted murder charge and two counts of wanton endangerment after two men exchanged gunfire in July.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeffery Smith, 51, of London on Wednesday after he allegedly fired a gun at Dustin Messer at Smith’s home on Old Way Road back in July.

According to the court records from Laurel Circuit Court, Messer was parked on Smith’s property and was blocking Smith’s driveway with his vehicle, preventing Smith’s wife from leaving.

Smith ultimately fired a warning shot in the air according to court documents. The two then exchanged fire according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Messer received multiple gunshot wounds according the officals and was transported to Saint Joseph London.

Smith’s wife was allegedly shot in the leg by Messer according. Messer has been indicted for assault based on his conduct.
