LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A man has been arrested for assaulting a police officer in Laurel County, following a theft investigation.

Cody Marcum, 25, of East Bernstadt was arrested Monday afternoon, according to the Laurel County Police Department.

Deputies received a complaint a van had been stolen off Glenview Road about two miles north of London.

Deputies were able to locate the stolen vehicle, a silver Dodge Caravan, on Somerset Road about three miles from where it had been stolen. A single man, Marcum, was found, according to police.

When police attempted to arrest Marcum he began fighting back, violently kicking and punching at deputies, according to police.

Only one deputy received injuries, to his leg, from the struggle.

Marcum was finally taken into custody and charged with the following, according to the department:

  • Four counts of assault third-degree
  • theft by unlawful taking – auto – $10,000 or more but under $1 million
  • public intoxication – controlled substances
  • resisting arrest; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
