SOMERSET, Ky. (FOX 56) — An investigation in Pulaski County has led to the arrest of a Somerset man and the confiscation of a large number of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was assisting the FBI with the execution of a federal indictment on Jason Woods, 43.

When officials first arrived at 2955 Providence Rd. they knocked and announced their presence according to a news release.

After about an hour, Woods responded to the officers and came to the front door followed by the smell of marijuana.

A search warrant permitted law enforcement entrance after Pulaski County Animal Control removed a large dog from the inside of the home.

Another person, an unnamed woman, was found inside the home.

Deputies also located and seized a lockbox containing $15,715.00 in cash. Another $1,201 was found in Wood’s pocket.

Six digital scales, some baggies, ledgers containing suspected drug transactions, concealment devices, and an RF detector. According to authorities drug dealers sometimes use RF detectors to alert them if someone may be wearing a wire.

According to the sheriff’s office a large number of drugs including the following were found:

  • Approximately 203.3 grams of heroin
  • Approximately 65.7 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 75.2 grams of methamphetamine
  • Approximately 125.8 grams of marijuana
  • Approximately 15.4 grams of mushrooms
  • Suboxone and Xanax

According to the news release, the “street value” of the illegal narcotics was $46,000.

“The amount of drugs removed from this operation likely saved lives,” said Sheriff Greg Speck in a news release. “The amount of heroin alone, would have placed roughly 2,000 doses of heroin on the streets of Pulaski County.”

Woods was charged with the following charges:

  • Pulaski Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear
  • Pulaski Circuit Court indictment for bail jumping, first degree
  • Federal indictment for possession with the intent to distribute (methamphetamine)
  • Aggravated trafficking in controlled substance 100 grams or more of heroin
  • Trafficking in controlled substance first degree first offense over 4 grams (cocaine)
  • Trafficking in controlled substance first degree first offense over 2 grams (methamphetamine)
  • Trafficking in controlled substance first degree first offense (hallucinogen)
  • Trafficking in controlled substance second degree first offense (drug unspecified)
  • Trafficking in controlled substance third degree first offense (drug unspecified)
  • Trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces
  • Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon

Woods is being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force.
