LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) – A Lincoln County man had to have a double lung transplant after contracting COVID-19.
Dave Hoover contracted COVID-19 in late January and spent three months at McDowell Hospital before being transported UK Hospital.
Doctors say the disease destroyed his lungs. He was placed on a ventilator but started having complications. Doctors had to place a catheter in his neck so he could receive oxygen.
Dave was placed on the transplant list and waited a month for the double lungs he has now. Now, he says he’s feeling fine and is happy to be with his family:
“In my eyes this a God-given miracle that He gave me a second chance at life,” Dave said. “I’m very blessed to still be here. I’ve got to give a lot of credit to UK’s medical staff.”
Dave plans to get vaccinated once doctors say it’s safe for him to do so.
Doctors are stressing the importance of getting a vaccine. They say more than 90 percent of people hospitalized for COVID-19 at UK Hospital have not been vaccinated
