PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56/WOWK) — Nexstar’s WOWK reports one of the suspects involved in the chase is dead.

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, troopers ended their pursuit of the vehicle as it entered Edgarton, West Virginia. Mingo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area and began searching for the vehicle.

Shortly after, the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office reported an officer-involved shooting around 7 p.m. near the area of the Edgarton and Lynn communities.

The suspect, identified by West Virginia State Police as 27-year-old Robert Lee Daniels, Jr. of Freeburn, Kentucky, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mingo County deputies confirmed the deceased is one of the suspects involved in the pursuit. Deputies also told WOWK a second person has been arrested in connection to the pursuit.

Agencies involved in the investigation include the Kentucky State Police, the West Virginia State Police, the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, the Matewan Police Department, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Norfolk & Southern Police.

Kentucky State Police have released more details on a police chase involving a flatbed truck on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Kentucky State Police in Pikeville received information about a stolen vehicle.

Troopers in Kimper saw an International flatbed vehicle parked at a service station. The vehicle was identified as one stolen from Mingo County, West Virginia.

When confronted, the driver of the vehicle fled and struck a marked cruiser. This lead to a pursuit throughout Pike County.

Troopers ended their pursuit as the vehicle entered Edgarton, West Virginia. Mingo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area and began searching for the vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation.
