LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) – Zebras come with a lot of questions: Black with white stripes? White with black stripes? Horse or hornless unicorn? Well, Louisville Zoo is adding a question with the birth of their new Hartmann’s mountain zebra foal on May 12.

The 71-pound filly joined the zoo family at midnight and, according to the zoo, is keeping 6-year-old momma, Azizi, busy.

The pair can be visited in the Africa zone in the zoo.

“We are ecstatic to have so much to celebrate this spring. These new offspring will be wonderful ambassadors to tell the stories of their species,” said Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney said in a statement.  “We look forward to watching this new filly grow with our community and sharing news about our pending giraffe birth.”

The unnamed filly joins another recent zoo baby, a harbor seal pup, and soon-to-be mother Kianga, the Masai giraffe, will be due soon.
