LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington Fire Department officials encourage everyone to have fun on Independence Day weekend, but they also encourage everyone to be safe also.

According to the fire department, fireworks injure over 12,000 people each year and cause around 18,500 fires.

While being known as safe, sparklers account for over 25% of total injuries and 50% of injuries in children under the age of five.

The Lexington Fire Department encourages everyone to protect their families and leave fireworks to the professionals.
