Lexington Police are asking for help finding the driver wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in downtown Lexington.

Donna Purcell, 59, died after being hit by a car Saturday afternoon at South Broadway and High Street, according to the coroner’s office.

Purcell was hit while walking in the crosswalk with the right-of-way, police said. She died at UK Hospital.

Investigators believe the car that hit Purcell fled inbound on South Broadway after the crash. Police say the vehicle was believed to be involved in several vehicle break-ins on the Transylvania University campus earlier in the day.

Police released a photo of the suspect vehicle on Sunday afternoon. It is described as a gray Chevrolet Malibu or Cruze.

Investigators say they are trying to identify a suspect and passengers, and are also looking for surveillance video from the area.

A woman has died after being hit by a car near Rupp Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Donna Purcell, 59, died of multiple blunt force injuries at the UK Hospital emergency room, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

She was hit by a car shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday at South Broadway and High Street in Lexington.

Police say the driver took off after hitting Purcell.

Investigators are looking for a silver four-door Chevrolet passenger car, possibly a Malibu or Cruze, with a front left wheel with a different type of rim. Police say the car has moderate damage to the front end.

The crash shut down the street for hours on Saturday night while police investigated.

Part of downtown Lexington near Rupp Area was shut down Saturday evening due to a serious crash involving a pedestrian.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of West High Street and South Broadway.

Police told WDKY that the crash is a hit-and-run.

The pedestrian was taken to UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators are looking for a silver four-door Chevrolet passenger car, possibly a Malibu or Cruze, with a front left wheel with a different type of rim. Police say the car has moderate damage to the front end.
