LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) – A man is dead after an overnight shooting in Lexington.
The coroner’s office says the victim has been identified as 18-year-old Montaye Mullins.
Police were called to the area of Augusta Drive and Raleigh Road for a report of shots being fired just after 3 a.m.
Officers found Mullins near a curb on Augusta Drive suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Responding officers used chest compressions on Mullins before he was taken away to a hospital where he died.
Family members asked the community to stop this kind of violence.
“It’s unnecessary. You all keep taking people’s lives and it doesn’t make no sense,” the victim’s cousin said. “There’s no real reason behind why you all think you can take someone’s life. That’s not cool. So I’m just asking y’all to put the guns down.”
“Y’all took my brother away from me,” the victim’s sister said. “I just pray that my brother gets justice. That he gets what he needs. I love you bubby. I’m going to miss you. I can’t believe they took you away from me.”
Lexington Police tell us they are still investigating right now.
