1,800 still without power in Estill County after winter storm
ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (WDKY) - Estill County emergency managers say approximately 1800 people woke up to no power Tuesday morning after a winter storm dumped several inches throughout the area the day prior.
After around 8-10 inches of heavy wet snow fell across the area, many trees and branches started falling down, knocking out power all across the county.
Officials say at one point they had nearly 3,000 residents and business without power, which is roughly half of all homes and business in the county.
Now that number has decreased to 1,800 without power, but with such cold conditions, officials want to remind residents to check on friends and family.
“Make sure and check on your neighbors. Make sure they’re warm. Make sure they have some food, especially elderly people. Make sure they’re OK.”
Officials hope to have power restored to all customers Wednesday. Crews from Ohio drove to Kentucky to help speed up the process.
