3 out of 4 Lexington adults fully vaccinated

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Three out of four adults, ages 18 and older, in Lexington are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the CDC.

City leaders say it’s about 74% for people 12 and older.

They credit the “Lex Do This!” vaccine campaign that occurred between February and May as well as volunteers going door to door. Through canvassing, the campaign reached 9,587 doors, and nearly 800 residents got vaccinated at clinics.

“The goal of this program was to bring the vaccine to areas that need easy access, and to bring credible information about the vaccine to residents who may have been on the fence about getting vaccinated,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “Our staff and our volunteers had lots of great conversations with residents and changed some minds along the way.”

Wild Heath is now taking over the canvassing program and will continue going door to door to encourage vaccination.

According to the CDC, Fayette County only trails behind Woodford and Franklin counties in vaccinations.
