LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – A popular downtown Lexington restaurant has closed its doors.

The Alfalfa Restaurant on East Main Street closed at the end of October, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The owners said pandemic labor and supply shortages led to the decision.

According to Alfalfa’s website, the restaurant started 48 years ago in 1973 when a group of students banded together to create a community hub that later turned into Alfalfa.

Alfalfa owners do hope to bring back the brand in 2022 as a food truck and event venue.
