Chris Johnson's Forecast | All eyes remain on Florence
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - As we head towards late-week, all eyes remain on Hurricane Florence and the big impacts it’s going to bring to the coastal areas. Once the storm strikes, its track will likely bring heavy rains and some gusty winds for the Commonwealth late weekend.
But first, let’s talk about the short-term forecast. Today will feature a mix of sun and clouds as highs warm into the low 80s. Small chance is there for a shower or storm, but most stay dry.
Friday is a similar day for central and eastern Kentucky. A mix of sun and clouds prevail once again as highs hit the low-mid 80s. A few showers and storms are possible for the afternoon hours.
On the other hand, the tropics will be active. Florence is likely bearing down on the North/South Carolina coast Friday evening while bringing damaging winds and extreme amounts of rain. The latest track once it hits landfall would take the storm northward into the Commonwealth Sunday. As of right now, heavy rains and gusty winds look likely Sunday afternoon through Monday. If this happens, it will be the second tropical system to impact the state in the last two weeks.
