OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (WDKY) – Bath County emergency managers are alerting drivers of a crash which has shut down westbound lanes of Interstate 64.

The crash happened around the 120 mile marker Wednesday morning. FOX 56 has learned the coroner was called to the scene.

According to police at the scene, a tractor-trailer hauling deck and wood stain was headed eastbound when it crossed the grassy median and collided with a pickup headed westbound. Both vehicles then went through a guardrail and down an embankment.

Officers say the driver of the pickup truck was killed in the collision. His identity has not been released. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital.

Traffic is being rerouted through Owingsville at exit 121.

This detour may take 2-4 hours. Crews are also cleaning up a diesel fuel spill. Some of the stain the tractor-trailer was hauling also spilled, but the trucking company says it’s not harmful to the environment.

Westbound lanes of I-64 are expected to be closed for several more hours. Eastbound lanes are currently open.
