LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) – Crews responded to a large fire in Lexington Friday afternoon.
It happened at a home in the 2000 block of Savannah Lane in the Beaumont Centre neighborhood.
Battalion Chief Ward says firefighters went into a defensive mode on arrival because the home was engulfed in flames.
Battalion Chief Ward tells us the fire is out, but no one is able to get inside due to the extensive damage. Ward said no one was inside the home when the fire broke out, but he says two dogs were inside and likely did not survive.
Neighbors say the event has been shocking.
“Nothing like this has ever happened in our neighborhood and, obviously, it’s just a really scary sight,” Eleanor Davis said. “You don’t know anything, you don’t know if anyone was hurt, you don’t know what is going on. You just see your whole street covered in fire trucks and police cars.”
Right now, there are still a lot of questions, including how the fire started. The investigation is ongoing.
Ward says the home will likely be a complete loss.
