CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WDKY) – Kentucky State Police say a Cynthiana teacher is behind bars after having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Troopers arrested Amanda Phillips, 37, of Cynthiana, Wednesday and charged her with first-degree sexual abuse.
Phillips works as a special needs teacher, and the victim was a prior student over the age of 12 at the time of the relationship.
Phillips’ arrest report says she admitted to the inappropriate relationship, which consisted of kissing and other physical actions of a sexual nature. The acts occurred at Phillips’ home.
“In response to the allegations, the accused is no longer employed by the Harrison County Board of Education,” Harrison County Schools said in a release. “Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, we are not permitted to make any comments at this time.”
Harrison County Schools lists Phillips as a teacher at Eastside Elementary School.
The case remains under investigation.
