Three people sent to hospital after crash in Estill Co.

Crews blocked a Kentucky highway as troopers investigated a wreck in Estill County Monday evening.

ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. - An Estill Co. highway was closed for hours as state police investigated a crash.

The wreck occurred on KY 82 near the intersection with KY 2001. Two cars and a truck were involved.

The Estill County coroner confirms three people were injured in the wreck: two were taken to the hospital in Lexington with serious injuries and the other was taken to a local hospital. A fourth person walked away from the crash without injuries.

Officials on-scene told Fox 56 one of the people who suffered injuries had to be pulled from a vehicle and flown by helicopter for medical treatment.

No word yet on how the crash happened. However, people who live in the area say it is common for wrecks to occur there especially when it rains.

"We have a wreck here at least once a week," said Paul Smith who lives in the area. "When the road gets a little damp, you'll see somebody wrecked."

Officials were unable to give an update on the victims' conditions.
