Estill County Rescue Squad bloodhound found shot and killed
WACO, Ky. – A dog used in search operations was found shot dead after it was reported missing.
The Estill County Rescue Squad confirms its full-blooded bloodhound and service dog Hunter was found dead Monday afternoon, one day after the animal disappeared. Hunter, who was 18 months old, was the crew's main search and rescue animal.
Hunter’s owner reportedly let the dog out to use the bathroom Sunday morning, and the dog never returned. That was in the Redlick Road and Kissy Branch Road area.
According to a post on Facebook, investigators believed the dog may have been stolen. Crews searched nearby wooded areas Monday to see if they could find Hunter.
Rescue squad members say they expected Kentucky State Police to get involved in the investigation. It is unknown if there are any suspects.
