MANCHESTER, Ky.  – A Clay County woman appeared in circuit court to answer to her murder charge after her newborn baby was found dead inside a garbage bag in December.

Amber Bowling, 21, of Manchester is accused of killing her newborn Jacob hours after giving birth to the boy Dec. 11. Kentucky State Police says Bowling threw the garbage bag she put the child in over a banister. A neighbor found the garbage bag two days after Bowling gave birth.

An autopsy revealed the newborn suffered cranial bleeding and fractured ribs.

Bowling was appointed a public defender who entered a not guilty plea on her behalf during her arraignment.

Bowling’s uncle was in the courtroom for the arraignment, and he told Fox 56 the entire family is shocked over the case, and Bowling’s actions were out of character.

Bowling’s next court appearance is Mar. 4 for a pre-trial hearing.

Jacob Bowling was posthumously named. He was laid to rest at a small cemetery in Clay County.
