An early morning fire destroyed an iconic home on Herrington Lake.

Boaters said the fire broke out around 5 a.m. Saturday. Those who dock at Pandora Marina said they woke up to a loud explosion and saw flames shooting from the home right across the lake.

Tony Pankey said  he’s been boating on Herrington Lake all his life and knows the couple who built the home on the water more than 40 years ago.

Thankfully, we are told the couple and their dog made it out in time and onto their boat to get help.

Those who have been boating on Herrington Lake for years said it was a house everyone knew and loved.

“The house has been there for so long and I just know that every time you come across the bridge, you see that beautiful house, just so pretty and it’s been there I think since the 70’s,” said neighbor, Janice Holloway.

Officials have not yet said what caused the fire.
