The Franklin County Coroner’s office has identified the man who was killed in a crash in Frankfort Friday night.

It happened around 8 p.m. on U.S. 127 near Holmes Street.

Police say it was a three-vehicle crash between two vehicles and a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer went over an embankment during the crash.

The coroner’s office says 41-year-old Jason V. Powell, of Frankfort, was killed in the crash. They say Powell was driving a black pickup truck northbound on U.S. 127, when it was hit by the other vehicle and the tractor-trailer. It is not known if Powell was wearing a seatbelt.

“It’s reported that the truck was spinning out of control, the black truck, and the tractor-trailer hit the truck and pushed it into the other vehicle,” said Lt. Chris Quire with Frankfort Police. “Of course it is early in the investigation, but that’s what we had reported to us by a witness.”

“We always consider that weather is a factor in any kind of incident,” said Franklin County Coroner Willian Harrod. “Again, we did have accident reconstruction on site.”

Police say the semi appeared to be hauling car parts in metal crates.

The conditions of the two people injured have not been released at this time.

An autopsy and toxicology tests were scheduled for Saturday.
