LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56/WKYT) – Dozens of friends and family members of Jameisha Beattie, 22, came together Wednesday night at Martin Luther King Jr. Park for a balloon release and to pay tribute her. They also called for an end to violence.

Police say Beattie died after she was shot around 4:45 a.m. Sunday at Waffle House on South Broadway. She leaves behind a two-year-old son.

Beattie’s mother, Shameka McCalister, said young people need to stop carrying guns everywhere they go. “It’s crazy,” she said. “There’s going to be nothing left” with the young generation killing off innocent people.

Two other people were also injured by gunfire Sunday morning.

No arrests have been made.
