Gov. Beshear reports 1,635 new cases; extends mask mandate

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDKY) – Governor Andy Beshear gave an update Wednesday afternoon on COVID-19 cases in Kentucky.

The governor says he will be extending the mask mandate another 30 days.

Gov. Beshear reported 1,635 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 113,009 cases. The governor says the state is seeing a 6.30 percent positivity rate.

There were 11 reported COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday. The state death total is now 1,514.

As of Wednesday, 1,066 people are hospitalized for COVID-19 related reasons, 286 are in the ICU, and 125 are on ventilators. At least 19,667 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says since the end of September, we have doubled the number of hospitalizations and more than doubled the number of patients in ICU related to COVID-19.
