Gov. Beshear reports 1,781 new COVID-19 cases; 23 deaths

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDKY) – Governor Andy Beshear is providing an update on COVID-19 cases.

Gov. Beshear believes phase 1B of the phased COVID-19 vaccine distribution will begin Feb. 1, give or take a week.

Who gets priority for the COVID-19 vaccines in Kentucky?

As of Tuesday, there have been 66,582 total doses administered in Kentucky.

Gov. Beshear reported 1,781 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the state total to 280,836 cases. The governor says the state is seeing a 11.4 percent positivity rate. Of Tuesday’s new cases, 202 are in kids 18 or younger.

There were 23 reported COVID-19 related deaths on Tuesday. The state death total is now 2,772.

As of Tuesday, 1,760 people are hospitalized for COVID-19 related reasons, 430 are in the ICU, and 215 are on ventilators. At least 37,502 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Health department leaders say as they get more vaccines, they’ll start focusing on other people listed in Phase 1B, which include K-12 teachers and people 70 years or older.(Kentucky COVID-19 dashboard)
